What is the difference between a mortice bathroom lock and a tubular deadbolt?

A mortice bathroom lock combines a latch and privacy bolt in one case and is typically used with handles and a thumbturn. A tubular deadbolt is a simpler, compact privacy bolt that's often paired with separate door handles and a turn-and-release set.

Are bathroom locks and deadbolts suitable for external doors?

No. Bathroom locks and deadbolts are designed for privacy on internal doors rather than high security. For external doors, choose appropriate security-rated locks.

Do bathroom deadbolts have an emergency release?

Many bathroom deadbolts and turn-and-release sets include an external emergency release feature for safety in homes, hotels, and commercial washrooms.

What door furniture do I need to complete a bathroom lock setup?

Common pairings include bathroom handles on backplates, handles on rose, and matching thumb turns. This depends on whether you choose a mortice bathroom lock or a tubular deadbolt arrangement.

Do you deliver bathroom locks and deadbolts across the UK?

Yes. Bathroom locks and deadbolts can be supplied with UK-wide delivery, including major areas such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, and Glasgow.

Bathroom Locks and Deadbolts

Bathroom Locks and Deadbolts - Privacy for Timber Doors

Our bathroom locks and deadbolts are designed for internal timber doors in bathrooms, en-suites, and WCs. Choose between mortice bathroom locks and tubular deadbolts for a neat, reliable privacy solution that meets UK standards.

What They Are & When to Use Them

Mortice bathroom locks combine a latch and a bolt in one unit, operated by a handle and thumbturn. A tubular deadbolt is smaller, quick to fit, and works with separate handles and a turn-and-release set. Both provide privacy rather than high security, making them ideal for homes, hotels, and commercial washrooms.

Pros & Cons

Pros: Neat flush finish, available in multiple sizes & finishes, UK-standard spindle spacing, emergency release for safety.
Cons: Privacy only - not suitable for external doors requiring security locking.

We supply bathroom locks and deadbolts with delivery available across the UK, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, and Glasgow. Match them with bathroom handles on backplates, handles on rose, or thumb turns for a complete setup.

For solid brass, pair the lock with a Heritage Brass bathroom thumb turn in round, square, indicator or easy turn designs, made to match Heritage Brass door handles on rose.

Detailed Guide to Mortice Bathroom Locks and Tubular Deadbolts

Mortice bathroom locks are fitted inside the door edge and combine a latch and a bolt. Operated by a lever handle (8mm spindle) and a thumbturn (5mm spindle), they include an emergency release on the outside for safety. They work perfectly with bathroom handles on backplates.

Tubular deadbolts are compact, round-case locking units without a latch, often used with door handles on a rose and a bathroom thumb turn. They’re quick to install, align neatly beneath a tubular latch, and are popular for modern bathroom layouts.

Both types are designed for internal timber doors and provide privacy for bathrooms, en-suites, and WCs, rather than external security. They’re available in finishes to match your door furniture and other architectural ironmongery.

Choosing the Right Option

How to Select a Bathroom Lock for Your Timber Door

If your bathroom door uses handles on a backplate, a mortice bathroom lock is the standard choice. It offers a smooth handle action plus a secure bolt for privacy.

If your handles are on a rose, a tubular deadbolt with a separate thumbturn provides a clean, modern look.

We work with leading brands such as From The Anvil, Carlisle Brass, Heritage Brass, and Frelan Hardware to ensure lasting performance and style.
