The Sorrento door hardware range from M.Marcus is a contemporary collection of lever door handles, escutcheons and bathroom thumb turns made from zinc alloy. With 40 lever designs, eight finishes and a choice of round rose, square rose and backplate fittings, it lets you give every door in a house, flat or office the same modern look, from the bedroom doors to the bathroom and the room you need to lock.

What is the Sorrento range?

Sorrento is a modern door furniture range made by M.Marcus, a British door hardware manufacturer founded in 1940 and also behind Heritage Brass and York Security. The name and styling are Italian-inspired: slim levers, clean edges and flat or softly curved roses. Because every handle, escutcheon and thumb turn in a finish is made to match, you can mix functions across a whole property without the colour or style drifting from door to door.

Rose or backplate - which Sorrento handles do you need?

Sorrento finishes

  • Satin chrome - soft, brushed and low-glare; hides fingerprints well on busy doors.
  • Polished chrome - bright and mirror-like; pairs with chrome taps and bathroom fittings.
  • Apollo dual finish - polished and satin chrome on the same handle for a two-tone detail.
  • Satin nickel - a slightly warmer brushed silver than satin chrome.
  • Matt black - strong contrast on white, grey and oak doors.
  • Matt bronze, antique and venetian bronze - warmer, darker tones that suit painted panel doors and more traditional rooms.

Completing a door with Sorrento

Sorrento handles are sold as a pair with a spindle and fixings, but without the lock or latch. Most internal doors need a York tubular latch; bathrooms need a York bathroom lock with matching Sorrento bathroom thumb turns; and doors that lock need a sash lock plus matching Sorrento escutcheons. Which Lock or Latch Goes with Sorrento Handles?

The question we are asked most at the counter is which lock goes behind a Sorrento handle. Here is the door-by-door answer we give.

Bedrooms, living rooms and hallways: pair Sorrento lever handles on rose or a Sorrento lever latch plate with a York Security tubular latch. If your doors have a rebate, add a tubular latch rebate kit.

Bathrooms and en-suites: use rose handles with Sorrento bathroom thumb turns, or a Sorrento bathroom lever plate, and fit a York bathroom lock or a York bathroom deadbolt.

Studies, offices and store rooms: fit a Sorrento lever lock plate with a York 3 lever sash lock, or use rose handles with a Sorrento keyhole escutcheon.

Doors that need more security: for back doors and front doors to flats, look at a York 5 lever sash lock to BS3621. If you prefer a cylinder, choose a York euro profile sash lock with a Sorrento euro lock plate or a Sorrento euro escutcheon. Always check what your insurer requires before you choose.

Matching the lock finish: the lock forend shows on the edge of the door, so match it to your handles. Use satin chrome and nickel York locks with satin chrome or satin nickel Sorrento, polished chrome York locks with polished chrome or Apollo, matt black York locks with matt black, and matt bronze York locks with the bronze finishes. Sorrento lever lock and bathroom backplates have 57mm centres, which suits standard UK sash locks and bathroom locks. Euro lock backplates have 48mm centres for euro profile sash locks. Always check the centres of your lock before ordering.
