From The Anvil Door Handles: Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between lever handles on rose and on backplate?

Lever handles on rose have a small round or square rose, so you add a separate escutcheon or bathroom thumbturn to suit the lock behind. Lever handles on backplate have the keyhole or thumbturn built into one plate, and come in lock, latch, euro lock and bathroom versions.

Which From The Anvil finishes can I use on an external door?

From The Anvil recommends Black and Pewter Patina for damp conditions outside, and External Beeswax is dipped in an anti-corrosive beeswax for inside and outside use. If you like the Beeswax look on an outside door, choose the External Beeswax version. Near the coast, choose marine grade 316 stainless steel, which From The Anvil has salt tested for over 1,000 hours.

Will From The Anvil multipoint handles fit my uPVC or composite door?

Most From The Anvil multipoint lock handles have 92mm centres between the spindle and the keyhole and 212mm fixing centres, which suit many uPVC and composite doors. Measure your existing handle and check the dimensions on the product page before you order.

Can I match From The Anvil door handles to window and cabinet hardware?

Yes. Ranges such as Avon, Newbury, Hinton, Reeded and Monkeytail include matching casement stays, fasteners and espagnolette handles, and Brompton and Regency also include cabinet knobs and pull handles in the same finishes.

Can I see From The Anvil door handles before I buy?

Yes. T.H. Wiggans Ironmongery has supplied From The Anvil for decades, and both our T.H. Wiggans showroom in Kendal and our Trade Door Handles showroom in Carlisle have From The Anvil displays where you can handle the designs and finishes before you order.

How to Choose the Right From The Anvil Door Handle

Choosing door handles starts with the door and the lock or latch fitted inside it. Get that right first, and every From The Anvil lever, knob and pull in the same design and finish will sit together from room to room.

Internal doors with a tubular latch: choose lever handles on rose, on a round rose or a square rose, or latch door handles on backplate.

Doors with a sash lock or deadlock: choose lock door handles on backplate for a standard key, euro lock door handles for a euro cylinder, or a lever on rose with a matching escutcheon.

Bathrooms and en-suites: choose bathroom door handles on backplate with the turn built in, or a lever on rose with a separate bathroom thumbturn.

Front and back doors with a multipoint lock: choose multipoint door handles. Most From The Anvil multipoint lock handles have 92mm centres and 212mm fixing centres, but measure your old handle before you order.

Cottage, barn and ledged and braced doors: Suffolk, thumb and ring latches keep the traditional look, while mortice and rim knobs suit period panel doors and rim locks.

Sliding, pocket and entrance doors: flush pulls sit flat in the door so it can slide past the frame, and door pull handles come in bolt through and face fix versions for heavier doors.
