Heritage Brass - Door Furniture Accessories

Brass Door Furniture and Door Accessories by Heritage Brass

Heritage Brass door furniture accessories by M.Marcus, the British door hardware maker founded in 1940, are the finishing pieces that complete every door in the house: door knockers, letter plates, house numbers and letters, escutcheons, bathroom thumb turns, finger plates and door stops. With over 2,000 pieces of brass door furniture in up to ten finishes, you can match your accessories to your handles on every door.

Trade Door Handles is the online shop of T.H. Wiggans Ironmongery, trading since 1976. Our Kendal and Carlisle showrooms both carry a large Heritage Brass display, so we can help you put together a complete, matching set for a front door, a bathroom or a whole house.

Front Door Furniture

Make an entrance with a solid brass door knocker, from the classic lion head door knocker to urn, ring and doctor door knockers, Victorian door knockers and slim and modern door knockers, or a centre door knob in round, Victorian, square or reeded designs. Add a brass letter plate: the 10 x 3 letter plate suits most houses, while a 12 x 4 letter plate or large letter plate takes newspapers and big envelopes. Fit a matching inner letter flap on the inside, a door bell push and a door chain. For an all-gold front door, see brass door knockers, brass centre door knobs and brass letter plates. See all Heritage Brass external door hardware.

House Numbers and Door Numbers

Brass house numbers are one of the most searched door accessories. Choose 3 inch house numbers for the front of the house or 2 inch door numbers for flats and internal doors, in traditional or modern styles, and face fix, concealed fix or self adhesive fixing. The most searched colours have their own pages: brass door numbers, chrome door numbers and black house numbers, and 2 inch face fix door numbers suit flat doors. Spell out a house name with brass door letters.

Escutcheons, Thumb Turns and Cylinder Pulls

Match the escutcheon to the lock: standard profile keyhole escutcheons, euro profile escutcheons, oval profile escutcheons, covered escutcheons, square escutcheons, round escutcheons and small keyhole covers. For bathroom and bedroom doors, choose bathroom thumb turns including round, square, knurled, easy turn and indicator turn and release designs, and fit them to a bathroom lock or tubular deadbolt. A cylinder pull gives a front door something to pull on.

Door Stops, Finger Plates, Bolts and Hooks

Protect walls and doors with Heritage Brass door stops, from floor door stops to wall and projection door stops and door holders that hold the door open, in gold brass door stops, chrome door stops and six more finishes. Finger plates, including brass finger plates and shaped porcelain finger plates, protect paintwork where hands push. Secure doors with brass door bolts, including straight barrel bolts, necked barrel bolts, flat door bolts, slide bolts, flush bolts and the espagnolette bolt for French doors, and rack bolts and privacy bolts. Choose straight door bolts or cranked door bolts for rebated doors, in gold brass door bolts or chrome door bolts. Finish with cabin hooks to hold doors and shutters, and Heritage Brass coat hooks, hat and coat hooks or robe hooks for the back of the door.

Heritage Brass makes matching accessories for many of its handle ranges, so escutcheons and turns line up with the handle: reeded door furniture, Colonial, Century and Tiffany, Linear, Bauhaus low profile, Lisboa and Crystal, square rose and porcelain door furniture.

Heritage Brass Door Furniture Questions

What counts as door furniture accessories?
Door furniture accessories are the fittings that finish a door alongside the handles: door knockers, letter plates, house numbers, escutcheons, bathroom thumb turns, finger plates, centre door knobs, cylinder pulls, bell pushes, door chains, door stops, door bolts, cabin hooks and coat hooks.

How do I match accessories to my door handles?
Choose the same finish as your handles, and where possible the same design family. Heritage Brass makes matching accessories for many handle ranges, such as the reeded, Colonial, Linear and square rose designs, so escutcheons and thumb turns line up with the backplate or rose.

What do I need for a front door?
A typical front door set is a letter plate, a door knocker or centre door knob, house numbers, a cylinder pull or escutcheon to suit the lock, and a door chain for security. Keeping them all in one finish gives a smart, matching look.

Which escutcheon do I need?
Match the escutcheon to the lock: a standard profile keyhole escutcheon for a mortice lock, a euro profile escutcheon for a euro cylinder, or an oval profile escutcheon for an oval cylinder. Covered escutcheons have a swing cover to keep draughts out.

What finishes are Heritage Brass accessories made in?
Antique brass, satin brass, polished brass, matt bronze, polished chrome, satin chrome, satin nickel and polished nickel, with matt black and unlacquered brass on selected items.

How to Plan Matching Front Door Furniture

Front door furniture is the first thing visitors see, so it pays to plan it as a set rather than piece by piece. Pick one finish, then work from the top of the door down.

1. Knocker or centre knob: a brass door knocker sits at eye level on the lock stile or centre of the door. On Georgian and Victorian doors a centre door knob in the middle of the door is the traditional choice.

2. Letter plate: a letter plate usually goes in the middle rail. Check the rail height before you order, then add a letter tidy inside to cover the cut-out and stop draughts.

3. Numbers and bell: fix 3 inch house numbers where they can be read from the pavement, with a matching bell push on the frame.

4. Lock furniture: finish with an escutcheon or cylinder pull to suit the lock, and a door chain inside for added security.

Door Accessory Fitting Questions

Which door stop do I need?

Use a floor door stop where the door opens against a skirting or furniture, and a wall or projection door stop where it hits a wall. If you want the door held open, choose a door holder.

How do I fix brass house numbers?

Face fix numbers screw through the face and are the quickest to fit. Concealed fix numbers have hidden pins for a cleaner look, and self adhesive numbers suit uPVC and composite doors where you cannot drill. See all Heritage Brass house numbers and letters.

Do Heritage Brass accessories match the door handles?

Yes. Escutcheons, thumb turns and other accessories are made in the same finishes as Heritage Brass door handles, and several handle ranges have their own matching accessories, such as the reeded door furniture range.
