Why Choose Oval Cylinders for Your Locking System
Oval Profile Locks for Security, Compatibility & Legacy Hardware
Oval cylinders are essential for doors that require a specific oval-profile lock case — often found in commercial properties, HMOs, educational facilities, and older timber or aluminium door setups. These cylinders provide a snug, secure fit in hardware where Euro cylinders are unsuitable or incompatible.
Whether you're replacing legacy hardware or maintaining a commercial property, our selection of oval profile cylinders includes key/key, thumbturn, and half cylinder options in a variety of finishes. Each design supports smooth operation and a precise fit for both interior and exterior door setups.
We also offer configurations that can be keyed alike or included in a master key system, making them an excellent choice for multi-door access control. For a complete setup, match your oval cylinders with our door furniture, perfect for creating a consistent aesthetic across your project. You can also browse our window furniture for matching styles, or explore architectural ironmongery for finishing touches that tie everything together.
Not Sure Which Oval Cylinder You Need?
How to Measure and Choose the Right Size
Choosing the correct oval cylinder is easy once you know how to measure it properly. Start by removing the cylinder from the door — you’ll need to unscrew the central fixing screw on the lock faceplate. Then, measure from the centre of that screw hole to each end of the cylinder. This fixing hole is normally positioned in the centre of the cylinder.
Oval cylinders are measured in two halves (e.g. 35/35 or 40/30), and common overall sizes include 60mm, 70mm, 80mm and 90mm.
If you’re unsure about how to remove or measure your cylinder correctly, or need help choosing between standard double-keyed, thumbturn, or half-cylinder options, contact us and our team will be happy to help.

Let Our Experts Guide You
If you're deciding between double-keyed, thumbturn, or half-cylinder oval options, our team is here to help. With over 45 years of experience advising trade professionals and property managers, we’ll guide you to the right product quickly and confidently.
Oval cylinders are best used when replacing existing locks already fitted to an oval-profile case. But if you're working on a new project or full door installation, we recommend switching to Euro profile cylinders instead. They’re more widely supported across handle and lock designs, easier to source, and offer greater long-term flexibility.
