Choose the Right Casement Fastener

Fitment Types, Styles & Finishes Explained

When shopping for casement window fasteners, it’s important to choose the right fitting type. There are four main types:

Hook plate fasteners – Work with flush-fitting timber windows and are often used where weather seals are present.
Mortice plate fasteners – Ideal for recessed windows where the sash and frame don’t sit flush.
Wedge plate fasteners – Draw the sash tightly into the frame for extra draught control.
Night vent fasteners – Designed to lock the window slightly open for secure airflow — a popular option for bedrooms and bathrooms.

Some fasteners come with both hook and mortice plates for flexibility across multiple window types.

Match your chosen fastener with your decor using finishes like beeswax, matt black, satin nickel, pewter, antique brass, or polished chrome. Styles like monkey tail, spoon end, and bulb end suit period and heritage properties beautifully.

For a complete setup, pair your fastener with a matching casement window stay in the same style and finish.
