Plain Extruded Solid Brass Butt Hinges

Extruded brass hinges are the classic plain brass butt hinge: the leaves are formed from a solid extruded brass section, giving crisp square edges, a consistent gauge and colour that runs right through the metal. Without washers or bearings they are best suited to lighter doors, cupboards, wardrobes, joinery and restoration work where an authentic, traditional brass hinge is wanted. Where to use extruded brass hinges

The 2 inch and 2 1/2 inch sizes suit cupboard doors, boxes, cabinets and small joinery. The 3 x 1 5/8 inch hinge is a popular choice for wardrobes, airing cupboards and lightweight internal doors, while the 4 x 2 3/8 inch will hang a standard lightweight internal door. For heavy doors, upgrade to a washered or thrust bearing hinge.

Care tip: lacquered finishes such as polished brass, satin brass, antique brass, matt bronze and satin nickel should only be wiped with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid metal polish and aerosol cleaners, which break down the lacquer. Polished nickel is a living finish that develops a gentle patina unless buffed regularly, and natural brass is supplied unlacquered so it will darken over time.
