Sizing hinges for internal doors

Lightweight 35mm hollow core doors are normally hung on a pair of 3 inch hinges. Solid core and 44mm internal doors are better on 4 inch hinges, and heavy solid oak internal doors should use three hinges. Fire doors must use CE marked, fire rated hinges fitted with intumescent hinge pads - check the product details before ordering for a fire door.

Care tip: lacquered finishes such as polished brass, satin brass, antique brass, matt bronze and satin nickel should only be wiped with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid metal polish and aerosol cleaners, which break down the lacquer. Polished nickel is a living finish that develops a gentle patina unless buffed regularly, and natural brass is supplied unlacquered so it will darken over time.
