Picking the right small hinge

Choose a hinge length roughly in proportion to the door: 1 inch for jewellery and keepsake boxes, 1 1/2 inch for small cabinet and display doors, 2 inch for cupboard doors and 2 1/2 inch for larger cupboard and wardrobe doors. The open width of the hinge should allow the knuckle to sit just proud of the door edge so it can swing freely.

Polished nickel is a living finish that develops a gentle patina unless buffed regularly, and natural brass is supplied unlacquered so it will darken over time.
