A Size 2-4 door closer refers to an overhead door closer that can be adjusted to operate at power sizes 2, 3, or 4 depending on the door width and weight. Typically suitable for doors up to 1100mm wide and 80kg in weight, these closers are ideal for internal use where controlled, secure closing is essential—particularly in fire safety situations.

Where Size 2-4 Door Closers Should Be Used

These closers are commonly fitted to internal doors in commercial buildings like schools, hospitals, care facilities, hotels, and modern office spaces. They are particularly useful on fire doors, ensuring compliance with EN 1154 standards. However, they're generally not suitable for external doors, due to exposure to wind and unpredictable conditions. For external use, consider a stronger size such as Size 2-6.

Understanding Fixing Methods: Pull Side vs Push Side

Most door closers are mounted on the pull side of the door (same side as hinges), offering the simplest installation. However, when this isn't feasible, a Figure 66 bracket can be used for a push-side (parallel arm) configuration, especially useful in tighter spaces or where aesthetics matter.

Optional features like Back Check and Delayed Action are also available with some models. Back Check prevents slamming when doors are thrown open, while Delayed Action provides extra time before the door begins to close — ideal for care homes or disabled access areas.
