For cottage and farmhouse furniture there is a hand-forged cupboard turn, made from mild steel, and for modern cabinets a 6kg pull magnetic catch.

How does a cabinet latch work?

Turning the oval knob draws back a sprung latch so the door can open. When you close the door, the latch springs into the keep to hold it shut.
