Black Door Handles and Knobs in Solid Brass

Heritage Brass matt black door handles and knobs by M.Marcus are solid brass with a matt black powder coated finish. There are 58 in all: lever handles on rose and on backplate, a Victoria mortice knob and rim knob, door pull handles, flush pulls, and sliding and pocket door hardware.

Lever Handles on Rose

Black door handles on rose come in Athena, Bauhaus, Bauhaus Mitre, Centaur, Challenger, Gio, Pyramid and Trident designs on a round rose, and Bauhaus Sq and Delta Sq designs on a square rose. Add a matching escutcheon or bathroom turn where the door needs one.

Lever Handles on Backplate

Black door handles on backplate come in latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions in the Diplomat design and on a 200mm plate in the Bauhaus, Gio and Octave designs, plus a Bauhaus latch handle.

Are Heritage Brass matt black door handles solid brass?
Yes. They are solid brass with a matt black powder coating applied over the brass.

Do the handles come with a latch?
No. Heritage Brass handles are sold without locks or latches. York Security makes matt black tubular latches, sash locks and bathroom locks to go with them.

Do I need a rose or a backplate handle?
A backplate handle has the keyhole, Euro cylinder or bathroom turn built into the plate. A rose handle sits on a small round or square rose, with a separate escutcheon or turn added where needed.

Choosing Your Matt Black Door Handle Style

Matt black suits almost any door, so the real choice is the shape. Pick one design and repeat it on every door, and the whole house will read as one scheme.

Square and linear. For flush doors and contemporary interiors, the Bauhaus Sq and Delta Sq levers sit on a square rose, and the Bauhaus, Gio and Octave ranges come on a slim 200mm plate in latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions.

Round rose. The widest choice of black door handles on rose: Athena, Bauhaus, Bauhaus Mitre, Centaur, Challenger, Gio, Pyramid and Trident. Add a round black escutcheon or a turn and release to match.

Classic backplate. The Diplomat design comes on a backplate in latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions, for doors where you want the keyhole or turn built into the plate.

Knobs. The Victoria design comes as a mortice knob and a rim knob, for period doors and doors with a rim lock.

Big doors and sliding doors. Gio, Bauhaus and Tubular black door pull handles suit front doors, glazed doors and large sliding doors, with black flush pulls on pocket doors.

Match the kitchen. Bauhaus, Gio and Pyramid also come as black kitchen handles, so the same shape can run from the doors to the cupboards.

Measuring Up for Matt Black Door Handles

A few checks before you order save a second delivery. Here is what to look at on each door.

Which handle. A plain plate is a latch handle, a plate with a keyhole is a lock handle, a plate with a cylinder cut-out is a Euro profile handle, and a plate with a turn is a bathroom handle. Handles on rose work with any of these, with a separate escutcheon or turn.

Escutcheons. Match the escutcheon to the lock: key escutcheons for lever locks and Euro escutcheons for Euro cylinders. Matt black comes in 53mm round and Colonial key and Euro escutcheons, a 32mm keyhole escutcheon, and 33mm covered and reeded covered keyhole escutcheons.

Bathrooms. Choose a bathroom handle on a plate, or a handle on rose with a separate turn and release, from the black bathroom door handles. Both work with a bathroom lock in the door.

Pull handles. Bolt through pulls are for one face of the door, fixed with bolts from the other side. Back to back pulls give a pull on both faces and come with a back to back fixing pack.

Flush pulls. For sliding and pocket doors choose a round, reeded round or square flush pull, a rectangular flush pull in 105mm, 175mm or 300mm, a 197mm flush pull, a swing door flush pull or a combined edge and flush pull.

Locks. Heritage Brass handles are sold without locks or latches. York Security matt black locks and latches include tubular latches, sash locks, deadlocks and bathroom locks.

Can I put a pull handle on both sides of a door?

Yes. The back to back pull handles are made to fix through the door with a pull on each side. Bolt through pulls are for one side only.

What is the difference between a mortice knob and a rim knob?

A mortice knob is for a lock or latch set into the edge of the door. A rim knob is for a rim lock fixed to the face of the door. The Victoria design comes in both in matt black.

Which matt black escutcheon do I need?

A key escutcheon for a lever lock, or a Euro escutcheon for a Euro cylinder. Both come in 53mm round and Colonial designs.

What goes on a pocket door?

A flush pull, which sits flat so the door can slide into the wall, and for bathrooms a pocket door lock with a privacy turn or the flush pull privacy set.
