Choosing the Right Euro Lock Door Handles on Backplates

Euro Profile Backplate Handles for Secure, Consistent Door Hardware

If you are looking for a secure locking solution for internal or external doors, Euro lock door handles on backplates provide a versatile and future-proof option. Each handle set is designed around a Euro profile cylinder and a matching Euro profile mortice sash lock, allowing you to upgrade security later by changing just the cylinder. This collection includes nearly 500 Euro profile door handles in modern, contemporary and traditional styles for homes, new-builds and commercial projects.

A Euro lock backplate handle works by aligning the Euro cut-out with the keyhole in the lock case. Our range is designed for Euro profile mortice sash locks with approximately 47.5mm centres between the spindle and keyhole. These are ideal for internal doors needing security, such as offices or storerooms, and for external side or back doors. To build a complete setup, pair your chosen handles with a compatible Euro profile mortice sash lock and the appropriate Euro profile cylinder.

These handles are not suitable for DIN lock cases (typically 72mm centres) or multipoint locking systems (commonly 92mm centres). If you need handles for multipoint systems instead, view our multipoint locking door handles on backplates.

You can choose Euro lock handles in almost any finish. Traditional styles such as polished brass, polished chrome and satin chrome remain popular, while satin nickel, antique brass and matt black suit more modern interiors. You can quickly browse finish-filtered Euro lock handle sets below:

Euro lock handle sets are supplied in pairs with a spindle and fixings. Locks and cylinders are purchased separately, allowing you to choose the correct size and security rating. Insurers often recommend a 3-star cylinder for external doors, while internal privacy doors may only require a standard cylinder.

Euro profile mortice sash locks are typically available in 2.5" and 3" case sizes. A 2.5" lock keeps the keyhole closer to the door edge, whereas the 3" version offers more spacing between the keyhole and frame. Always compare your current lock measurements before replacing or upgrading to Euro lock formats.

To maintain a consistent look throughout your property, you can pair your Euro lock handles with matching variations.

• For internal non-locking doors, use latch door handles on backplates.

• For bathrooms and en-suites, choose bathroom door handles on backplates.

• For traditional 5-lever locking doors, see standard lock door handles on backplates.

If you prefer other lock types, you can also explore standard locking door handles on backplates and oval profile locking door handles on backplates.

Materials range from budget aluminium and zinc to premium brass and stainless steel. Many models include springs to help return the lever and reduce wear on the lock case—especially important for high-traffic environments such as hotels, care homes, schools and office buildings.

To finish the door, you can add accessories such as cylinders, bolts, viewers and escutcheons. Explore our Door Furniture Accessories collection to complete the specification.

Euro lock door handles on backplates remain one of the most flexible choices for homeowners, landlords and contractors thanks to their upgradeable security and broad range of finishes and designs.
