Choosing a Tudor Door Handle Design

Each Tudor lever is on a backplate, which suits period doors and covers old fixing holes. The main difference between designs is the size and shape of the backplate.

Fleur de Lys. The largest backplate, 200 x 51mm, with a decorative fleur de lys shape. In latch, lock and bathroom versions.

Wroxeter. A 168 x 51mm backplate, in latch, lock and bathroom versions.

Shropshire and Colonial. Both on 155mm backplates, 49mm and 53mm wide, in latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions. The Short Colonial latch handle is on a smaller 132 x 50mm plate.

Wellington. A slimmer 146 x 39mm backplate, which suits narrower door stiles. In latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions.

Windsor. The most compact, on a 102 x 42mm backplate, in latch, lock, bathroom and Euro profile versions.

Mortice knobs. For a knob instead of a lever, there are two mortice knobs on rose, with 38mm and 47mm knobs.

Latch, lock, bathroom or Euro

Which Version Do I Need?

Match the handle to the lock or latch in your door.

Latch handles are for doors with a latch only, such as most internal doors.

Lock handles have a keyhole and are for a sash lock. The keyhole is 57mm below the spindle.

Bathroom handles are for a bathroom lock, at 57mm centres.

Euro profile handles are for a Euro profile sash lock, at 48mm centres.

Locks and latches are not included. York Security matt black locks and latches keep the latch face black. For the rest of the door, see the Tudor door furniture accessories and Tudor strap hinges.
