How to Choose From The Anvil Switches and Sockets

Plan the whole room at once, so every plate on the wall is the same finish. These are the main things to check.

1. The finish: choose matt black for black ironmongery, black nickel for Beeswax pieces, or satin stainless steel for pewter, nickel and chrome finishes.

2. Light switches: count the lights on each plate, from single to quad light switches. Add an intermediate switch for a third switching point on a landing, or choose LED dimmer switches for dimmable pendants.

3. Sockets and spurs: single or double plug sockets for general use, and fused spurs for fixed appliances. Kitchens may also need a cooker switch.

4. Bathrooms and media: a dual volt shaver socket, a fan isolator switch for the extractor fan, and TV and telephone sockets where needed.

5. Spare back boxes: cover them with a matching blank plate, in matt black or black nickel.

From The Anvil Switches and Sockets FAQs

Which finish of switches and sockets should I choose?

Match the plates to your ironmongery. From The Anvil pairs Matt Black with its black and matt black products, Black Nickel with its Beeswax and External Beeswax products, and Satin Stainless Steel with its Pewter, Polished Nickel, Polished Chrome, Satin Chrome and Marine Stainless Steel products.

What size are From The Anvil switch and socket plates?

Single plates are 86mm x 86mm. The double socket, quad switch, triple and quad dimmers, 45 amp switch and socket, Sky Plus socket and shaver socket are on a wider 146mm x 86mm plate. Every plate is flat, 7mm deep, and supplied with matching stainless steel wood screws.

Which switch do I need for a landing or staircase?

A light controlled from two places uses two way switches; From The Anvil's two way switches have black rockers. For a third switching point, such as a landing between switches at the top and bottom of a stairway, From The Anvil makes an intermediate switch.

Do the dimmer switches suit From The Anvil pendant lights?

From The Anvil makes single, double, triple and quad LED dimmer switches, coloured to match the backplate. Its pendant lights are dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb, so the switches and lights can be chosen together.

Who should fit these switches and sockets?

Electrical work in the home should be carried out by a qualified electrician, who can check the back boxes, wiring and circuit before fitting. We can help you choose the right plates and finishes, and you can see From The Anvil finishes at our T.H. Wiggans showroom in Kendal and our Trade Door Handles showroom in Carlisle.
