The From The Anvil Gothic Thumblatch in Beeswax is a traditional Gothic door latch for cottage, ledged and braced, and plank doors. It is sold individually. Pair it with matching hinges and bolts in beeswax to finish the door.

Product Features

• Our Blacksmith thumblatches are hammered into shape from mild steel using a traditional anvil and fire manufacturing method.
• Thumblatches are typically used in conjunction with a T hinge on traditional plank doors.
• Maximum door thickness: 55mm.

About the Gothic Design

Traditionally used on a ledge and braced door, our thumb latch sets include a decorative door latch with a thumb shaped lever. When this lever is pressed down, it operates a thumb bar. The thumb bar passes through the door, lifting the latch bar on the opposite side and allowing the door to open. Beeswax Finish

Beeswax is our most traditional finish with a soft, natural aesthetic featuring subtle blue and deep red ochre tones which are preserved in the steel during the manufacturing process; this finish is ideally suited to older, traditional dwellings and cottage interiors.

Beeswax products are hand forged from mild steel. After forging, the subtle colours in the metal are preserved by dipping the products in hot beeswax, resulting in the soft, matte richness.

Care & Maintenance

Due to temperature changes or packaging, a Beeswax product may occasionally show signs of a white bloom upon opening. This can be buffed with a soft cloth to remove.

Although this finish already offers a very strong barrier against environmental conditions, we recommend re-applying a small amount of our 'Maintenance Wax' (33002) periodically with a cloth or brush which provides additional protection to the surface of your product and further protects this from any harmful external elements.

To increase the mechanical life expectancy of your products, we recommend regular oiling of all moving parts using our '3-in-1 Oil' (92337). This process is also highly recommended during initial installation.

*Please note that where possible we recommend using our External Beeswax products (in place of standard Beeswax) in areas of your property where damp conditions are expected such as kitchens and bathrooms. Light surface rust may appear if using our standard Beeswax finish in damp conditions, but can be removed with ease using 00 grade wire wool, followed by an application of 'Maintenance Wax' (33002).
