Choosing Internal Door Handles on Rose

Lever handles on rose are the most popular choice for internal doors in UK homes. The handle sits on a small rose, the latch is hidden inside the door, and one style can run through every room. Getting a whole house right comes down to three choices: rose shape, finish and the hardware behind the handle.

Rose shape: round rose door handles suit almost any door, from panelled period doors to flush oak doors. Square rose door handles give a sharper, minimalist look that sits well with square-edged architraves and modern joinery.

Finish: warm finishes such as brushed satin brass door handles on rose, antique brass and matt bronze suit painted and oak doors. Cool finishes such as chrome door handles on rose, satin nickel and satin chrome suit white and grey doors. For a bold modern contrast, try matt black door handles on rose.

Behind the handle: every door needs a York tubular latch. Bathroom and en-suite doors also need a York bathroom deadbolt and a bathroom thumb turn. Doors with a sash lock need an escutcheon to cover the keyhole.

Modern, mid-century and classic styles

Mid Century, Bauhaus and Industrial Door Handles on Rose

The rose is where modern door handle design happens. With no backplate to fill, the shape of the lever does all the work, which is why so many contemporary, mid-century and industrial designs come on rose.

Mid-century: slim, angled levers inspired by 1950s and 1960s design, such as the Metro Mid Century door handles and Metro Angled designs.

Bauhaus and minimalist: simple, geometric levers with no decoration, such as Bauhaus door handles on rose, Bauhaus Mitre, Gio and Spectral.

Industrial and textured: machined and hand-finished surfaces that add grip and character, such as knurled door handles on rose, Signac and Hammered Bauhaus.

Reeded and fluted: fine parallel grooves with an Art Deco feel, such as Roma Reeded, Reeded Colonial and the full reeded door handles on rose range.

Classic and traditional: shaped levers that suit period homes, such as Windsor, Sophia, Bedford and Lincoln.

Handles on Rose Questions

How many door handles do I need?

One pair per door. Each Heritage Brass handle on rose is sold as a pair with a spindle and fixings, so one pair fits both sides of one door.

Is brushed brass the same as satin brass?

Yes. Both names describe brass with a fine brushed grain and a soft sheen. Heritage Brass calls this finish satin brass.

Which finish hides fingerprints best?

Brushed and matt finishes such as satin nickel, satin chrome, satin brass, matt bronze and matt black hide fingerprints far better than polished finishes.

Can I mix round and square roses in one house?

Yes, but keep each door consistent. Use the same rose shape for the handles, escutcheons and thumb turns on a door so everything lines up.

Do the handles match other Heritage Brass hardware?

Yes. Heritage Brass hinges, escutcheons, thumb turns and door accessories are made in the same finishes, so the whole door matches.

Can I see Heritage Brass handles on rose before I buy?

Yes. Our Kendal showroom and Carlisle trade counter both have a large Heritage Brass display, so you can compare designs and finishes in person.
