Every Heritage Brass escutcheon by M.Marcus is here: 237 key, euro, oval and covered escutcheons in solid brass, made to match the lever handles, mortice knobs and pull handles in the same finish. Choose the Escutcheon for Your Lock

Round, Square and Covered Escutcheons

Round escutcheons match the round rose of Heritage Brass door handles on rose, with 53mm versions for most levers. Square escutcheons match square rose, Linear and Bauhaus handles. For mortice knobs and door pull handles, choose one of the smaller keyhole covers, or a covered escutcheon with a swinging cover that keeps out draughts.

Matched to Your Handle Design

Many escutcheons are made to match one handle range, so the escutcheon and handle rose line up exactly: reeded door furniture, Colonial, Century and Tiffany, Lisboa and Crystal, Linear, Bauhaus low profile, square rose and porcelain door furniture.

Brass, Black, Chrome and Nickel Escutcheons

Brass escutcheons are the most searched, in polished, satin and antique brass. Or shop by exact finish: polished brass, satin brass, antique brass, matt bronze, polished chrome, satin chrome, satin nickel, polished nickel, matt black. Choose the same finish as your handles, hinges and other door furniture for an exact match.

Escutcheon Questions

What is an escutcheon?
An escutcheon is a small plate that covers the keyhole or cylinder hole in a door. It finishes the lock neatly, protects the timber around the keyhole and ties the lock in with the handles on the same door.

Which escutcheon do I need for my lock?
Match it to the lock. A standard key escutcheon suits a 2, 3 or 5 lever mortice sashlock or deadlock. A euro profile escutcheon suits a lock fitted with a euro cylinder. An oval profile escutcheon is only for oval cylinder locks, which are now far less common than euro cylinders.

Do I need an escutcheon with handles on a backplate?
Usually not. Lock handles on a backplate already have the keyhole or cylinder cut-out in the plate. Escutcheons are needed with lever handles on rose, mortice knobs and pull handles, where there is no plate over the lock.

Will the escutcheon match my handles on rose?
Yes, if you choose the same Heritage Brass finish and rose. The 53mm round escutcheons match the standard round rose, and reeded, Century, Colonial, Lisboa, square, Linear and Bauhaus escutcheons match those handle designs exactly.

What is the difference between an open and a covered escutcheon?
An open escutcheon leaves the keyhole visible. A covered escutcheon has a small pivoting cover that swings over the keyhole to keep out draughts and hide the key way, and is popular on period doors.

How to Choose an Escutcheon

1. Check the lock: a traditional key needs a standard key escutcheon for a 2, 3 or 5 lever mortice sashlock or deadlock. A cylinder lock almost always needs a euro profile escutcheon to suit a euro cylinder. Only choose an oval profile escutcheon if your door has an older oval profile lock.

2. Match the handle: for door handles on rose, pick the round or square escutcheon that matches the rose, usually 53mm round or 54mm square. For mortice knobs and pull handles, choose a smaller keyhole cover.

3. Open or covered: a covered escutcheon has a swinging cover that keeps out draughts and hides the keyhole, a popular choice on period doors.

4. Pick the finish: choose the same finish as your handles. Brass escutcheons come in polished, satin and antique brass, and there are matt black, chrome and nickel versions too. Remember most doors need two escutcheons, one for each side.

More Escutcheon Questions

What size escutcheon do I need?

Match it to the rose of your handles. Most Heritage Brass lever handles on rose have a 53mm round rose, so choose a 53mm escutcheon. Lisboa and Sophia handles use the 50mm Lisboa escutcheon, square rose handles use the 54mm square escutcheons, and mortice knobs suit the small 32 to 45mm keyhole escutcheons.

Do I need one escutcheon or two?

Most doors need two, one on each side, because the key or cylinder is used from both sides. Heritage Brass escutcheons are sold singly, so order two per door.

Can I use a euro escutcheon on an oval cylinder?

No. The cut-out is a different shape, so a euro escutcheon will not cover an oval cylinder neatly. Check the cylinder in your door: euro cylinders are much more common, but older doors may still have an oval lock.

What is a keyhole cover?

Keyhole cover is another name for an escutcheon, usually a small one. A covered escutcheon goes further and adds a pivoting cover that swings over the keyhole when the key is not in use.

Are Heritage Brass escutcheons solid brass?

Yes. Every metal escutcheon is made from solid brass by M.Marcus and then finished, so even the chrome, nickel and matt black versions have a brass core. The porcelain covered escutcheons are made to match the porcelain mortice knobs.
