Heritage Brass - Satin Brass Door Furniture

Brushed Brass Door Handles, Door Knobs and Satin Brass Door Furniture

Heritage Brass satin brass door furniture is over 500 solid brass door handles, door knobs, pull handles, front door fittings and door accessories by M.Marcus, all brushed to the same soft, low sheen gold. Satin brass is often called brushed brass, and it sits happily on a painted Victorian panel door, a flush oak door or a modern composite front door, so one finish can carry through every door in the house.

Satin Brass Door Knobs

Satin brass mortice knobs on rose include Chester, Westminster, Aylesbury, Mayfair, Kensington, Hampstead, Chelsea, Whitehall, Richmond and Suffolk, with Victoria, Balmoral, Broadway, Charlston and Beehive knobs on latch, lock, euro and bathroom plates, some on a reeded plate. Victoria, Suffolk and reeded rim knobs are made for rim locks only. On the front door, add a satin brass centre door knob.

Satin Brass Door Pull Handles and Flush Pulls

The satin brass door pull handles run from around 280mm to 636mm in Metro, Bauhaus, Gio, Apollo, Bar, Pyramid, Durham, Industrial, Hexagonal, Tubular, Deco, Henley and Square Vintage designs, with hammered and knurled versions and back to back versions that put a pull on both sides of the door. For sliding and pocket doors there are satin brass flush pulls in round, square, rectangular and reeded shapes, a pocket door edge pull and a flush pull privacy set.

Satin Brass Front Door Furniture

Finish the front door with a satin brass door knocker such as the urn, lion head, ring, slim or doctors knocker, a satin brass letterbox from 8 x 3 to 16 x 5 inch with a matching interior letter flap, satin brass house numbers and letters and a satin brass bell push.

Door Accessories

Complete each door with satin brass escutcheons for key, euro and oval profile locks, finger plates, brushed brass door stops, satin brass bathroom thumb turns and door bolts, or browse all satin brass door furniture accessories.

Locks, Hinges and Care

Heritage Brass handles are sold without locks or latches. For a matching faceplate see York Security satin brass locks and latches, hang the door on satin brass hinges, or see the whole Heritage Brass satin brass range. Satin brass is a lacquered finish: wipe it with a non-abrasive cloth and never use metal cleaners or aerosol sprays. On front doors a light coat of non-abrasive wax helps protect the lacquer, which breaks down sooner outdoors, particularly near the coast, and its life cannot be guaranteed.

Satin Brass Door Furniture Questions

Is satin brass door furniture the same as brushed brass?
Yes. Satin brass is often sold as brushed brass: solid brass with a fine brushed grain and a clear lacquer, giving a soft sheen instead of a mirror shine.

Which handle do I need for a door with a multi-point lock?
A multi-point door handle. In satin brass these come in Gio, Bauhaus and Colonial designs, in left hand and right hand versions.

Can I use a rim knob on a mortice lock?
No. The Victoria, Suffolk and reeded rim knobs are made for use with rim locks only. For a mortice lock or latch, choose a mortice knob.

Do I need an interior letter flap?
It is optional. An interior flap covers the letterbox opening on the inside of the door to help keep out draughts. Choose the flap to suit the size of your letter plate.

Choosing Your Brushed Brass Door Style

Satin brass works with almost any style of door, so the real choice is the shape and texture of the furniture. Pick one look and repeat it on every door, from the front door to the smallest cupboard, and a house of mixed rooms will still read as one scheme.

Classic and period homes. For Victorian, Edwardian and cottage doors, look at traditional satin brass lever handles on backplate such as Savoy, Howard and Lisboa, or Victoria, Balmoral and Charlston knobs on a plate. On panelled doors with a narrow stile, brushed brass mortice knobs on rose such as Chester, Mayfair and Whitehall are a natural fit.

Reeded. Fine vertical lines are one of the most popular looks in brushed brass, and the reeded range runs right through the door: Roma, Sutton, Gio, Octave, Charlbury and Bauhaus reeded levers, Victoria and Beehive knobs on reeded plates, a reeded escutcheon and covered keyhole, a reeded bathroom turn, reeded flush pulls, and on the front door a reeded letter plate, reeded urn knocker, reeded beehive centre knob and reeded bell push. See every finish in Heritage Brass reeded door handles.

Knurled and hammered. For a tactile, crafted look there are Bauhaus Knurled and Bauhaus Mitre Knurled levers, knurled bar and Bauhaus knurled pull handles, a knurled bathroom turn and a knurled round floor door stop, plus Bauhaus Hammered, Delta Hammered and Metro Hammered designs.

Clean and modern. Square and linear designs suit flush doors and contemporary interiors: the 200mm plate range in Bauhaus, Gio and Octave, square rose levers such as Linear and Delta, and slim Metro, Bar and Tubular brushed brass pull handles for front doors and glazed internal doors.

Mid century. Softer curved shapes such as the Metro Mid Century, Julia, Alicia and Poseidon levers on rose bring a retro note that brushed brass suits particularly well, alongside round satin brass escutcheons and a round bathroom turn.

Handles, letterboxes, numbers, stops and escutcheons

Measuring Up for Satin Brass Door Furniture

A few measurements before you order save a second delivery. Here is what to check for each part of the door.

Lever handles. Look at what is in the door now. A plain plate is a latch handle, a plate with a keyhole is a lock handle, a plate with a cylinder cut-out is a euro handle, and a plate with a turn is a bathroom handle. Handles on rose work with any of these, with a separate escutcheon or turn. If the door has a multi-point locking system, choose a multi-point door handle in the correct hand.

Letterboxes. Measure the outside of your old letter plate and choose the nearest size from 8 x 3 to 16 x 5 inch in the satin brass letter plates. The interior letter flaps are made in three sizes: 280mm for plates up to 10 inch, 299mm for plates up to 12 inch and 400mm for large plates up to 16 inch. There is also a gravity letter plate and a postal knocker that combines a letter plate and knocker in one.

House numbers. Satin brass house numbers come in 51mm (2 inch) face fix and self adhesive and 76mm (3 inch) face fix and concealed fix versions, with 51mm pin fix letters A to Z for flat numbers such as 12A.

Door stops. Brushed brass door stops come as floor stops in round, square, stepped, knurled and shielded designs, including a magnetic shielded stop, as wall mounted stops in 64mm and 76mm, and as projection and cylinder projection stops in 64mm and 76mm. Choose the projection so the stop meets the door before the handle reaches the wall.

Escutcheons. Match the profile to the lock: key escutcheons for lever locks, euro escutcheons for euro cylinders and oval profile escutcheons for oval cylinders, in round sizes of 46mm and 53mm and square 54mm, with covered keyhole versions to keep out draughts.

Not sure? Send us a photo of your door and the old furniture, or visit our Kendal and Carlisle showrooms, and we will match handles, locks and York satin brass locks for you.

More Satin Brass Door Furniture Questions

Are there reeded accessories to go with reeded satin brass handles?

Yes. In satin brass there is a reeded key and euro escutcheon, a reeded covered keyhole escutcheon, a reeded bathroom turn, reeded flush pulls, a reeded letter plate, a reeded urn knocker, a reeded beehive centre knob and a reeded bell push.

Which interior letter flap fits my letter plate?

Choose the 280mm flap for letter plates up to 10 inch, the 299mm flap for plates up to 12 inch, or the 400mm flap for large plates up to 16 inch.

Can I put a pull handle on both sides of a door?

Yes. The back to back pull handles are made as a pair to fit through the door, with a pull on each side. Single pulls are for one side only.

What sizes do satin brass house numbers come in?

51mm (2 inch) and 76mm (3 inch). The 51mm numbers come in face fix and self adhesive, the 76mm in face fix and concealed fix, and there are 51mm pin fix letters for numbers such as 12A.

What is a postal knocker?

It is a letter plate and door knocker in one fitting. In satin brass it is 10 x 3 inch, so it suits a front door with room for only one piece of furniture.
