Heritage Brass - Satin Brass Hinges

Brushed Brass Door Hinges and Parliament Hinges

Heritage Brass satin brass hinges are 17 solid brass hinges by M.Marcus, from heavy 4 inch thrust bearing hinges to 1 inch cabinet hinges. A hinge is the one piece of door hardware seen on both sides of the door, so finishing it in the same brushed satin brass as your satin brass door handles and knobs keeps the whole door consistent.

Satin Brass Hinge Sizes

• Double phosphor washered hinges and phosphor washered hinges in 3 x 2, 4 x 2 5/8 and 4 x 3 inch, the everyday choice for internal doors.
• Thrust bearing hinges with a steel pin in 4 x 3 and 4 x 4 inch, for heavy, solid and frequently used doors.
• Parliament hinges in 4 x 2 x 4, 4 x 3 x 5 and 4 x 4 x 6 inch, which project the door clear of deep architraves and panelling.
• Plain brass butt hinges in 4 x 2 3/8 inch, and small brass hinges in 3 x 1 5/8, 2 1/2 x 1 3/8 and 2 x 1 1/8 inch for cupboards and built-in joinery.
• Cabinet hinges in 1 and 1 1/2 inch for boxes, jewellery boxes and small furniture doors.

How to Measure a Hinge

Hinge sizes are given as length x open width. Measure an old hinge from top to bottom for the length, then open it flat and measure across both leaves for the width. Most internal doors hang on a pair of 3 or 4 inch hinges, and heavier doors on three 4 inch hinges. Browse every finish in Heritage Brass hinges, or by use in internal door hinges and front and external door hinges.

Caring for the Lacquered Satin Brass Finish

Satin brass is one of the M.Marcus lacquered finishes: the brass is brushed to a soft, even grain and sealed with a clear lacquer. All lacquered finishes will eventually break down over time, and this happens more frequently on products exposed to the climate, particularly in coastal areas and in polluted environments. Regularly removing dirt and watermarks with a non-abrasive cloth will help maintain the life of the finish, and on products used externally a non-abrasive light wax coating will protect the lacquer and could extend its life. Do not use metal cleaners or aerosol sprays, as these will damage the lacquer. The life of the lacquer is beyond the manufacturer's control and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Satin Brass Hinge Questions

Which satin brass hinge is best for a heavy oak door?
The 4 x 3 or 4 x 4 inch thrust bearing hinge with a steel pin, hung three to a door.

Can I replace chrome hinges with satin brass ones of the same size?
Yes, as long as the length and width match the old hinge, so it sits in the existing recess. Check the screw positions too, as you may need to fill and re-drill the holes.

Which hinges should I use on a kitchen cabinet or box?
Use the small brass hinges for cupboard doors and built-in joinery, and the 1 or 1 1/2 inch cabinet hinges for boxes and small furniture doors.

Do satin brass hinges match satin brass handles?
Yes. Heritage Brass uses the same lacquered satin brass finish across its hinges, door handles, door furniture and window furniture.
