Butterfly, H, HL and Ornamental Hinges

Decorative hinges are fitted on the face of a door or cupboard, so the hinge becomes part of the look rather than being hidden in the edge. From The Anvil makes butterfly and half butterfly hinges, H and HL hinges and an ornate cabinet hinge in hand-forged Black, Pewter Patina and Beeswax.

For a door hung on ordinary butt hinges, Penny End hinge fronts give the look of a long strap hinge, and 3" dummy butt hinges give the look of a butt hinge but, as From The Anvil describes them, operate like a friction hinge.

What is an HL hinge?

An HL hinge is similar to an H hinge but has one L-shaped fixing plate, which gives extra support on large or damaged cupboards, doors, windows or shutters. HL hinges are often fitted at the top and bottom of a door with a single H hinge in the middle.

What is a hinge front?

A hinge front is a decorative strap fitted to the face of a door alongside a butt hinge, giving the traditional look of a strap hinge on an existing or new door.
