From The Anvil Gate and Barn Door Hinges

Heavy Duty T Hinges and Hook and Band Hinges for Gates and Barn Doors

Gates, barn doors, garage doors and traditional plank doors need long strap hinges that spread the weight of the door across its width. From The Anvil makes two kinds: T hinges, which screw to the face of the door and frame, and hook and band hinges, where the band swings on a pin fixed to the frame. From The Anvil describes its hook and band hinges as suitable for heavy doors and gates.

Both are hand forged by From The Anvil Blacksmiths from mild steel, using the traditional anvil and fire method. They come in Black, Pewter Patina, Beeswax and External Beeswax, with Black, Pewter Patina and External Beeswax the choices for outside doors and gates.

Gate and Barn Door Hinges: Questions

What is the difference between a T hinge and a hook and band hinge?

A T hinge has a long arm on the door and a short plate on the frame, both screwed on. A hook and band hinge has a long band on the door that swings on a pin fixed to the frame, and From The Anvil describes it as suitable for heavy doors and gates.

What does a cranked hook and band hinge do?

The crank in the band lets the door sit flush with the surface of the frame rather than standing proud of it.
