Mortice Sash Locks for Front, Back and Internal Doors

A sash lock combines a sprung latch, worked by the door handle, with a key-operated deadbolt in one mortice case, so the door can be latched shut or locked. It is the usual lock for back doors and for internal doors that need locking.

From The Anvil makes 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch 5 lever sash locks, Kitemarked to BS 3621:2007 for insurance, in keyed alike and keyed to differ versions, plus Euro profile sash locks for a Euro cylinder, DIN Euro sash locks and horizontal sash locks for knob sets. Most From The Anvil mortice locks and latches are CERTIFIRE approved (certificate CF5531), fire tested to FD-20/30/60 and performance tested against BS EN 12209.

Sash Locks: Questions

What is the difference between a sash lock and a deadlock?

A sash lock has a sprung latch worked by the handle as well as a key-operated bolt, so it needs a lever or knob handle. A deadlock only has the key-operated bolt, so it is used with a pull handle or knob that does not turn the latch.

Should I choose a 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch lock?

The size is the length of the lock case. From The Anvil recommends a 3 inch sash lock or latch with its knob sets, so the knob sits far enough from the door frame to turn without catching your knuckles. With lever handles, a 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch case works.
