3 Inch Tubular Latches to Suit Sprung and Unsprung Door Knobs

Mortice door knobs need a 3 inch (76mm) latch so there is enough room between the knob and the door frame for your knuckles. The spring strength of the latch matters just as much as its length, and choosing the wrong one is the most common reason door knobs feel stiff or fail to return.

Sprung or unsprung knobs?

• Sprung mortice knobs (sprung one side) - use a lightly sprung standard 3 inch tubular latch, such as the York Security YKTL3
• Unsprung mortice knobs, including porcelain knobs - use a heavy duty 3 inch latch such as the York Security Architectural YKAL3, which provides all the return spring
• Rim knob sets fitted to rim locks are unsprung and do not use a tubular latch
