Unlacquered Brass Kitchen Handles, Cupboard Knobs and Edge Pulls

Heritage Brass unlacquered brass kitchen and cabinet hardware by M.Marcus is 105 solid brass pull handles, cupboard knobs, edge pulls and drawer pulls with no protective lacquer. As a living finish it mellows from bright brass to a warm patina, with the handles you use most changing first, which suits Shaker, farmhouse and in-frame kitchens and pairs naturally with unlacquered brass taps.

What Is in the Range

  • Unlacquered brass cupboard knobs (31): Victorian round and oval, hammered Victorian, reeded, Florence, Florence Knurled, disc, knurled disc, domed, stepped oval, Pyramid, Classic Square, ball and sphere knobs from 22mm, plus 60mm and 90mm Knurled Fountain knobs.
  • Unlacquered brass edge pulls (12): four profiles in 50mm, 100mm and 200mm lengths for a near handleless look.
  • Also in the range: a traditional drawer cup pull and 102mm and 152mm sash pull handles.

Caring for Unlacquered Brass

With no lacquer, the brass reacts with air, moisture and the natural oils from hands and darkens over time. To keep it bright, use a brass polish and a soft cloth, then buff off all residue. To let it age, wipe away dust and fingermarks with a soft dry or lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and harsh chemical cleaners, and do not leave the brass wet.

Match the Rest of the House

Unlacquered Brass Kitchen Questions

Will unlacquered brass kitchen handles darken?
Yes. They mellow to a warm patina over time, and the handles you use most will change first. Polish them with a brass polish if you prefer them bright.

What sizes are the unlacquered brass pull handles?
From 76mm to 480mm fixing centres, so small drawers and tall larder doors can match.

Do unlacquered brass handles go with unlacquered brass taps?
Yes. Both are living finishes and age in the same way, so they stay in keeping with each other.

Unlacquered Brass to Suit Your Kitchen

Unlacquered brass works in more kitchens than people expect. It starts bright and warms as it ages, so it sits as happily on a new painted kitchen as it does in a period house. Here is how it works with the most popular schemes.

Painted Shaker kitchens. Warm brass is a classic partner for sage, green, navy, grey and cream paint. Fit unlacquered brass cupboard knobs such as the Victorian Round or Reeded designs on the doors, with Traditional or Henley Traditional pulls on the drawers.

In-frame and country kitchens. Colonial, Durham and Traditional unlacquered brass pull handles suit in-frame units, larder cupboards and dressers, and the traditional drawer cup pull adds a period touch to drawer fronts.

Modern and handleless kitchens. Metro, Bauhaus and Apollo pulls give a clean line, and the long Metro pulls up to 480mm fixing centres suit tall larder and fridge doors. For a near handleless look, use unlacquered brass edge pulls on the door or drawer edge.

With brass taps and a butler sink. If your tap is unlacquered brass, unlacquered handles will age at the same pace, so the kitchen keeps one consistent tone over the years.

With oak and walnut. Brass and warm timber are a natural pair. The textured Bauhaus Hammered, Partial Knurl and Complete Knurl pulls add interest on plain wood fronts.

Utility rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Use the same handles in the utility or boot room so the rooms flow together, and on wardrobes, chests of drawers and vanity units. For the front door and windows, see Heritage Brass unlacquered brass hardware.

Pull handles, knobs, edge pulls and sizes

Choosing the Right Unlacquered Brass Handle

Each handle type suits a different job. Here is what the unlacquered brass range offers and how to pick a size.

Pull handles. The most versatile choice, comfortable on both doors and drawers. There are 58 in Metro, Bauhaus, Bauhaus Round, Bauhaus Hammered, Apollo, Durham, Colonial, Traditional, Henley Traditional, Pyramid, Partial Knurl and Complete Knurl designs, from 76mm to 480mm fixing centres.

Measuring fixing centres. The size of a pull is the distance between the centres of its two fixing holes, not its overall length. If you are replacing handles, measure between the existing holes and choose the same centres so no new holes are needed.

Choosing a pull size. As a guide, 96mm to 128mm centres suit small drawers and wall cupboards, 160mm to 203mm suits most base units and wide drawers, and 256mm and above suits pan drawers, larder and tall doors.

Cupboard knobs. Knobs need only one hole and suit doors and small drawers. The range runs from a 22mm Sphere to a 41mm Stepped Oval, with most designs in 32mm and 38mm, plus 60mm and 90mm Knurled Fountain bar knobs.

Edge pulls. Edge pulls fit to the edge of the door or drawer front so the face stays almost plain. They come in 50mm, 100mm and 200mm lengths in a choice of profiles.

Sash pull handles. The 102mm and 152mm sash pull handles have a period look and work well on drawers as well as sash windows.

More Unlacquered Brass Kitchen Questions

What is the difference between unlacquered brass and polished brass?

Heritage Brass polished brass has a clear lacquer coat that keeps it bright. Unlacquered brass has no coating, so it changes colour over time.

Can I mix knobs and pull handles?

Yes. Many kitchens use knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. In the same unlacquered finish they will age together.

What sizes are the unlacquered brass cupboard knobs?

From 22mm to 41mm, with most designs in 32mm and 38mm, plus 60mm and 90mm Knurled Fountain bar knobs.

How do I measure for replacement pull handles?

Measure between the centres of the two existing fixing holes and choose a pull with the same fixing centres.

Can I get unlacquered brass edge pulls for a handleless kitchen?

Yes. There are 12 edge pulls in 50mm, 100mm and 200mm lengths, which fit to the edge of the door or drawer front.
