Heritage Brass Unlacquered Window Furniture

Unlacquered Brass Sash and Casement Window Fittings

Heritage Brass unlacquered brass window furniture by M.Marcus is 17 solid brass fittings for sash, casement and espagnolette windows, with no protective lacquer. Unlacquered brass is a natural choice for period timber windows, where it ages alongside the paintwork and looks as though it has always been there.

What Is in the Range

  • Sash windows (9): Fitch, hook plate and reeded hook plate sash fasteners, lockable versions of each, a lockable narrow Brighton sash fastener, a sash lift and a sash ring.
  • Casement windows (6): unlacquered brass casement window furniture, with ball end and lockable ball end casement fasteners, ball end casement stays and a sliding stay.
  • Espagnolette windows (2): lockable ball end espag handles in left and right hand.

Unlacquered Brass by the Sea

Lacquer can break down faster in coastal areas. Unlacquered brass has no lacquer to fail, so it is a sensible choice for windows near the sea, as long as you are happy for it to darken or are prepared to polish it.

Caring for Unlacquered Brass

With no lacquer, the brass reacts with air, moisture and the natural oils from hands and darkens over time. To keep it bright, use a brass polish and a soft cloth, then buff off all residue. To let it age, wipe away dust and fingermarks with a soft dry or lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and harsh chemical cleaners, and do not leave the brass wet.

Match the Rest of the House

Unlacquered Brass Window Questions

Which unlacquered brass window fittings lock?
The lockable Fitch, hook plate, reeded hook plate and narrow Brighton sash fasteners, the lockable ball end casement fastener and the lockable ball end espag handles.

Is unlacquered brass window furniture suitable near the sea?
Yes. There is no lacquer to break down in salty air. It will darken faster, and can be polished if you prefer it bright.
