Backplate Lever Handles with Bathroom Turn and Release

Heritage Brass bathroom door handles on backplate pair a lever handle with a turn and release, so a bathroom, toilet or en-suite door can be locked from inside and opened in an emergency from outside. Bathroom Lock Handles or Privacy Handles?

There are two types, and they need different locks:

  • Bathroom lock door handles work with a mortice bathroom lock with 57mm centres. Turning the snib throws a solid deadbolt into the frame. Usually on a long or standard backplate.
  • Privacy door handles work with a standard tubular latch. Turning the snib stops the latch being drawn back, with no separate deadbolt. Usually on a shorter plate.

For rose handles on a bathroom door, add separate Heritage Brass bathroom thumb turns.

Bathroom locks to fit these handles

Bathroom lock handles are sold without the lock. Choose a York Security bathroom lock, mortice bathroom locks, brass bathroom locks and deadbolts or black bathroom locks and deadbolts. Privacy handles need a York tubular latch.

Bathroom Door Handle Questions

Which bathroom handle do I need?
If you want a solid deadbolt, choose bathroom lock door handles and a mortice bathroom lock with 57mm centres. If the door has, or will have, a standard tubular latch, choose privacy door handles, which lock the latch with a turn.

How does the emergency release work?
The outside of the backplate has a release, often a coin slot, that frees the turn from outside if someone is unwell or the door is stuck.

Do bathroom handles match the other doors?
Yes. Heritage Brass bathroom, privacy, latch and lock backplate handles share the same designs and finishes, so every door in the house can match.
