Heritage Brass - Antique Brass

Antique Brass Door Handles, Kitchen Handles and Ironmongery

Heritage Brass antique brass is a hand finished, aged brass look with a mix of warm brass and darker bronze tones. M.Marcus makes it across Heritage Brass door handles, door knobs, door furniture, window furniture, kitchen and cabinet hardware, hinges and accessories, so you can fit antique brass lever handles, mortice knobs, hinges, window fasteners, cupboard handles and coat hooks that all match. It suits period homes, cottages, painted doors, oak and Shaker kitchens.

How the Antique Brass Finish is Made

Heritage Brass polishes the brass and applies a bronze patina over the whole surface. Experienced polishers then use soft brushes to remove some of the patina and expose the brass below, highlighting the variance of shades. This makes each piece both appealing and unique, so expect slight differences in shade from one piece to the next. To preserve the final appearance, a protective coating of clear electrophoretic lacquer is applied.

Antique Brass Questions

What is Heritage Brass antique brass?
It is a hand finished aged brass. Heritage Brass polishes the brass, applies a bronze patina, brushes some of it away by hand to expose the brass below, then seals it with a clear electrophoretic lacquer.

Will every antique brass piece match exactly?
Not exactly. Because the patina is brushed back by hand, each piece has its own variance of shades. This is part of the character of the finish.

Is antique brass lacquered?
Yes. A protective coating of clear electrophoretic lacquer is applied to preserve the final appearance.

Can I match antique brass door handles, hinges and kitchen handles?
Yes. Heritage Brass makes antique brass across its door handles, hinges, window furniture, kitchen and cabinet hardware and accessories.

Do Heritage Brass door handles come with locks or latches?
No. They are sold without locks or latches. For matching antique brass locks and latches, see the York Security range by M.Marcus.

One finish for every door, window and cupboard

Choosing Antique Brass Ironmongery

One finish through the house. Heritage Brass makes antique brass across door handles and knobs, door furniture, window furniture, kitchen and cabinet hardware, hinges and accessories, so everything can match.

Where antique brass works best. The mix of warm brass and darker bronze tones suits Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian homes, cottages and farmhouses, painted doors in heritage colours, oak and pine joinery, and Shaker and country kitchens.

Hand finished, so every piece is unique. Heritage Brass polishes the brass, applies a bronze patina over the whole surface, then its polishers brush some of it back with soft brushes to expose the brass below. A clear electrophoretic lacquer protects the final appearance. Expect slight differences in shade between pieces, which is part of the character of the finish.

Locks and latches. Heritage Brass handles are sold without locks or latches. For matching locks and latches, see antique brass York locks and latches from the York Security collection by M.Marcus.

Antique Brass Questions

Is antique brass suitable for modern interiors?

Yes. As well as period homes, antique brass adds warmth to modern kitchens and interiors with dark paint colours, natural wood and stone.

How do I clean antique brass hardware?

Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and dry it. Avoid abrasive cleaners and metal polish, as they can damage the clear lacquer and the hand finished patina.

What is the difference between antique brass and matt bronze?

Both are aged finishes. Matt bronze is a darker, earthy brown with chocolate undertones. Antique brass has a bronze patina brushed back by hand, so more of the warm brass shows through.

Will antique brass door handles match my antique brass cupboard knobs?

Yes. Heritage Brass uses the same antique brass finish across its door handles, cabinet hardware, window furniture, hinges and accessories. As it is hand finished, expect slight variation in shade between pieces.

Do you have antique brass locks and latches?

Heritage Brass handles are sold without locks or latches, but the York Security range by M.Marcus includes antique brass locks and latches to match.
