Heritage Brass - Antique Brass Kitchen and Cabinet Hardware

Antique Brass Kitchen Handles, Drawer Handles and Cupboard Knobs

Heritage Brass antique brass kitchen and cabinet hardware brings together over 340 solid brass cabinet pull handles, cupboard knobs, cup handles, edge pulls, drop handles and catches by M.Marcus. Antique brass is a hand finished, aged brass look that suits painted Shaker and country kitchens, oak and pine cabinetry, dressers and period furniture.

How the Antique Brass Finish is Made

Heritage Brass polishes the brass and applies a bronze patina over the whole surface. Experienced polishers then use soft brushes to remove some of the patina and expose the brass below, so each handle and knob has its own variance of shades. A protective coating of clear electrophoretic lacquer preserves the final appearance. Clean with a soft, damp cloth only, as metal polish will damage the lacquer.

Antique Brass Kitchen Hardware Questions

What size kitchen handles should I choose?
Pull handles of 96mm to 160mm centres suit most wall and base units, while 192mm to 320mm suit tall doors and wide pan drawers. Measure between the existing holes if you are replacing handles.

Will all my antique brass kitchen handles match exactly?
Very closely, but not exactly. Each piece is hand finished, with the bronze patina brushed back by hand, so expect slight differences in shade between handles and knobs.

Do antique brass knobs match antique brass pull handles?
Yes. Heritage Brass uses the same antique brass finish across its cabinet pull handles, cupboard knobs, cup handles and edge pulls, so you can mix them in one kitchen.

What fixings come with Heritage Brass cabinet handles?
Pull handles come with M4 bolts in two lengths, and knobs come with M4 bolts, to suit different door and drawer front thicknesses.

Choosing Antique Brass Kitchen Handles

Pull handles or knobs? Antique brass pull handles give a firm grip on drawers and tall doors, while antique brass cupboard knobs suit wall units, small drawers and traditional kitchens. Many kitchens use both: knobs on doors and pull handles on drawers, in the same finish.

Cup handles and edge pulls. Antique brass cup handles are a classic choice for drawers on Shaker and country kitchens. Antique brass edge pulls fit over the top edge of a door or drawer for a near handleless look.

Sizing pull handles. Pull handles are sized by their fixing centres, the distance between the two bolt holes. As a guide, 96mm to 160mm suits most wall and base units, and 192mm to 320mm suits tall larder doors and wide pan drawers. If you are replacing handles, measure the existing holes and choose the same centres.

Also in antique brass. The range includes T-bar knobs, drop handles and cabinet catches for dressers and furniture.

Style, ageing and matching

Antique Brass in the Kitchen

Where antique brass works best. The mix of warm brass and darker bronze tones suits painted Shaker and country kitchens in greens, blues, greys and creams, oak and pine cabinetry, dressers and period furniture.

Hand finished, so every piece is unique. Heritage Brass polishes the brass, applies a bronze patina, then its polishers brush some of it back with soft brushes to expose the brass below. A clear electrophoretic lacquer protects the final appearance. Expect slight differences in shade between handles and knobs.

Match the whole house. Antique brass is also made in door handles and door furniture, window furniture, hinges and accessories.

More Antique Brass Kitchen Handle Questions

How many handles do I need for my kitchen?

Count every door and drawer front. Most people fit one handle or knob per door and one per drawer. Very wide drawers often look better with two pull handles.

Which antique brass handles suit a Shaker kitchen?

Cup handles on the drawers and round or Victorian knobs on the doors is the traditional Shaker look. For a slightly more modern feel, use bar pull handles on the drawers instead.

How do I clean antique brass kitchen handles?

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry. Avoid metal polish, abrasive cleaners and harsh kitchen sprays, as they can damage the clear lacquer and the hand finished patina.

What is the difference between antique brass and matt bronze kitchen handles?

Both are aged finishes. Matt bronze is a darker, earthy brown with chocolate undertones. Antique brass has a bronze patina brushed back by hand, so more of the warm brass shows through.

Will my handles fit the existing holes?

They will if you choose the same fixing centres as your current handles. Measure from the centre of one hole to the centre of the other and pick that size.
