Heritage Brass Door Pull Handles

Solid Brass Pull Handles for Doors by Heritage Brass

Heritage Brass door pull handles by M.Marcus, the British door hardware maker founded in 1940, are machined and cast from solid brass, then plated or lacquered. The range runs to nearly 500 brass pull handles: T bar and bar pulls, D pulls, cranked pulls, guardsman pulls, pulls on backplates and matching back to back sets, in sizes from small cupboard pulls to 600mm plus handles for tall front doors.

Trade Door Handles is the online shop of T.H. Wiggans Ironmongery, trading since 1976. Our Kendal and Carlisle showrooms both carry a large Heritage Brass display, so we can help you choose the right length, fixing and finish for every door.

Choose Your Fixing Type

How a pull handle fixes to the door matters as much as how it looks. Bolt through pull handles fix through the door from the other side and are the strongest, most secure choice for a single pull. Back to back pull handles put a matching handle on both faces of the door, joined by one set of bolts, which is ideal for sliding door pull handles and doors pulled from both sides. Face fix pull handles screw to the surface of the door with no through-drilling. For a traditional finish, see pull handles on backplate and matching push and pull door handle sets.

Popular Pull Handle Designs

The T bar door handles and bar pulls are the most versatile shape, a straight round bar on two standoffs. The V1475 tubular D pull handle is a classic D handle in 19mm brass tube, and the V1150 cranked pull handle suits cottage and period doors. For texture, look at knurled door pull handles and hammered pull handles. For 1930s homes, see the Art Deco pull handles, and for rustic sliding doors, our barn door handles.

Pull Handles by Finish

Antique brass pull handles are the most searched brass finish and suit painted and oak doors in period homes. Satin brass gives a softer, brushed gold, and polished brass the classic bright brass front door look. Matt bronze is a dark, low-sheen alternative to black, while polished chrome and satin nickel suit modern, cool colour schemes. You can also browse all gold and brass pull handles, chrome and nickel pull handles and black door pull handles.

Sizes for Every Door

Match the handle to the height of the door. 300mm pull handles suit standard internal doors, 450mm pull handles suit front doors and sliding doors, and large door pull handles of 600mm and over suit tall, wide and heavy doors. For cupboards and small doors, see small pull handles.

Finger Plates for Push and Pull Doors

On a push and pull door, fit the pull handle on one side and a matching Heritage Brass finger plate on the push side, just above handle height. Choose brass finger plates, chrome finger plates or black finger plates to match the finish of your pull handle.

Heritage Brass Pull Handle Questions

What is the difference between bolt through, back to back and face fix pull handles?
A bolt through pull handle has threaded studs that pass through the door and are fixed from the other side, so it cannot be unscrewed from the handle side. A back to back set is two matching pulls joined through the door by one set of connecting bolts, for doors pulled from both sides. A face fix pull screws straight into the face of the door, so it is quick to fit and suits doors that only need a pull on one side.

Which pull handle fixing should I use on a front door?
Use a bolt through or back to back fixing on front and external doors, so the handle is held from the inside face and cannot be removed from outside. Face fix pulls are best kept for internal doors.

What size pull handle do I need?
Around 300mm suits most internal doors and cupboards in proportion to the door. 450mm is a popular size for front doors, kitchen doors and sliding doors. Choose 600mm and over for tall, wide or heavy doors.

Do I need a push plate with a pull handle?
On a door that is pulled from one side and pushed from the other, a matching push plate protects the paint where hands push. Our push and pull sets pair a Heritage Brass pull handle on plate with a matching push plate.

What finishes do Heritage Brass pull handles come in?
The core finishes are antique brass, satin brass, polished brass, matt bronze, polished chrome and satin nickel, with matt black, polished nickel and satin chrome on selected designs.

How quickly will my pull handles arrive?
Stock items are usually delivered within 2-3 working days across the UK. Back to back sets are made to order by M.Marcus, with a typical lead time of around 6 weeks.

Choosing the Right Pull Handle for Your Door

A pull handle has to look right and feel solid in the hand, because it is the first thing people touch. The best choice depends on the door it is going on.

Front doors and external doors: a long brass bar on a front door makes a strong first impression. Choose bolt through pull handles or back to back pull handles so the fixings sit on the inside face. 450mm pull handles and large door pull handles suit most front doors, and polished brass or antique brass suit period front doors.

Sliding doors and barn doors: surface-mounted sliding doors are pulled from both sides, so they need a matching pair. See our sliding door pull handles and barn door pull handles, or pick a T bar pull handle as a back to back set.

Internal doors, kitchens and cupboards: face fix pull handles and 300mm pull handles suit internal doors, larders and utility rooms. For smaller doors, see small pull handles. Doors pushed from one side look best with a matching push and pull set.

Pull Handle Styles Explained

What is a T bar pull handle?

A T bar pull handle is a straight round bar held off the door on two cylindrical standoffs. It is the most popular shape for modern front doors, internal doors and sliding doors. See our T bar door handles.

What is a D pull handle?

A D pull handle is a single curved bar that forms a D shape from the face of the door. It is a simple, comfortable grip that suits both modern and traditional doors. See the V1475 tubular D pull handle.

What is a guardsman pull handle?

A guardsman pull is a straight bar on cranked legs with round bases, a traditional style often used on front doors and shop doors. See the V2057 guardsman pull handle.

What is a cranked pull handle?

A cranked pull handle has a grip that steps out from two flat fixing plates, giving more knuckle room. It is a classic choice for cottage, ledged and period doors. See the V1150 cranked pull handle.

Are Heritage Brass pull handles solid brass?

Yes. Heritage Brass pull handles are made by M.Marcus from solid brass and then plated or lacquered in the finish you choose.

Can I see Heritage Brass pull handles before I buy?

Yes. Our Kendal showroom and Carlisle trade counter both have a large Heritage Brass display, so you can compare sizes, designs and finishes in person.
