Hinge Types in Polished Nickel

• Double phosphor washered hinges: 3 x 2, 4 x 2 5/8 and 4 x 3 inch, for smooth everyday use on internal doors.
• Thrust bearing hinges with a steel pin: 4 x 3 and 4 x 4 inch, for heavier and busier doors.

Polished Nickel, a Living Finish

Polished nickel is nickel plating on highly polished brass, with a bright shine and a gentle golden undertone that is warmer than polished chrome. The nickel finish is not coated, so it will oxidise naturally. Buff it regularly with a soft cloth to keep it bright. If it is not regularly buffed, the nickel plate will subtly change over time, taking on an aged patina.

What size hinge do I need for an internal door?
Most internal doors take 3 inch or 4 inch butt hinges. Use 4 inch hinges, and three per door, for heavier solid doors.

What is the difference between washered and thrust bearing hinges?
Washered hinges have phosphor bronze washers between the knuckles for a smooth action on everyday doors. Thrust bearing hinges carry the door weight on a bearing and suit heavier, busier doors.
