Solid Brass Espag Handles for uPVC and Timber Windows

Heritage Brass espagnolette window furniture by M.Marcus brings the look of a traditional brass window handle to windows with an espagnolette locking gear. Turning the handle moves the locking bar inside the window so it locks at several points at once. There are three lockable solid brass designs, each made in left hand and right hand versions and in up to nine finishes, so you can fit brass window handles to modern uPVC windows as well as timber ones.

Espag Handle Designs

• Lockable espagnolette handle (V1006L): a plain, traditional lever, 135mm high on a 58mm x 18mm backplate, that locks with a grub screw below the handle, in eight finishes.

Espag Handle Questions

What is an espagnolette handle?
An espagnolette handle, or espag handle, operates a locking bar that runs inside the edge of the window. Turning the handle moves the bar so the window locks at several points at once, which is why espag handles are used on most modern uPVC windows.

Do I need a left hand or right hand espag handle?
Espag handles are handed, so the lever sits and turns the right way for your window. As a general guide, stand inside facing the window: if the handle is on the left with the hinges on the right, you normally need a left hand handle, and the reverse for a right hand handle. The safest check is to order the same hand as the handle you are replacing, or send us a photo and we will confirm.

Will a Heritage Brass espag handle fit my uPVC window?
Heritage Brass espag handles are made for windows with an espagnolette locking gear, including most uPVC windows. Before ordering, check three things against your existing handle: the hand, the fixing centres (the distance between the two screws) and the spindle length. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your handle and window and we will advise.

Are Heritage Brass espag handles lockable?
Yes. All three designs lock in the closed position with a grub screw: below the handle on the plain V1006L and the reeded V895L, and above the handle on the ball end V1009L. M.Marcus notes they are not security locks, so check your insurance requirements if you need an approved window lock.

What is the difference between the three espag handle designs?
The plain lockable espag handle (V1006L) has a smooth, traditional lever, the reeded handle (V895L) has a fluted, ribbed lever to match reeded door and window hardware, and the ball end handle (V1009L) finishes in a round ball to match ball end casement fasteners and stays.

Are Heritage Brass espag handles made in matt black?
No. The espag handles come in up to nine finishes: polished brass, satin brass, antique brass, matt bronze, polished chrome, satin chrome, polished nickel and satin nickel, with the ball end handle also in unlacquered brass.
