Interior Letter Flaps

An interior letter flap fits on the inside of the door to cover the opening, cut draughts and tidy the post. The V860 280 fits plates up to 10 inch, the V860 299 fits plates up to 12 inch, and the V860 403 fits the 13 to 16 inch plates. Each letter plate page suggests the flap that fits it.

Brass, Chrome, Nickel or Black

Brass letter plates come in four gold tones, and antique brass letter boxes are one of the most searched finishes. Shop by exact finish: antique brass, satin brass, polished brass, unlacquered brass, matt bronze, matt black, polished chrome, satin chrome, satin nickel and polished nickel.

Matching Front Door Furniture

Every finish is made across the range, so your letter plate will match a Heritage Brass door knocker, centre door knob and house numbers. Read our letter plates guide, or compare every brand in our letter plates and covers range.

Letter Plate Questions

What size letter plate do I need for a house?
For most houses a 10 x 3 inch letter plate is the standard size. If you get newspapers, magazines or lots of large envelopes, or you have a large door or an office, choose a 12 x 4 inch letter plate.

Which interior letter flap fits my letter plate?
The V860 280 flap fits letter plates up to 10 inch, including the 10 x 3 and 10 x 4 sizes. The V860 299 flap fits plates up to 12 inch, including the 11 inch gravity plates and the 12 x 4. The V860 403 flap fits the 13, 14 and 16 inch plates.

Can Heritage Brass letter plates be fitted to a composite or uPVC door?
Heritage Brass letter plates are made for timber doors and bolt through the door. For a composite or uPVC door, contact our team and we will help you find a suitable letter plate.

How to Choose a Letter Plate

1. Choose the size for your post: a 10 x 3 inch letter plate is the standard for most houses. If you get newspapers, magazines or lots of A4 envelopes, or it is a large door or an office, choose a 12 x 4 inch letter plate.

2. Replacing an old letter plate? Measure the fixing centres (the distance between the two bolts) and the slot cut in the door. Matching the centres means the new plate lines up with the existing holes. Every product page lists the centres and aperture.

3. Add an inner flap: an interior letter flap covers the slot on the inside to stop draughts. The V860 280 fits plates up to 10 inch, the V860 299 up to 12 inch, and the V860 403 the 13 to 16 inch plates. Each letter plate suggests the flap that fits it.

4. Check your door: Heritage Brass letter plates are made for timber doors and bolt through the door. For composite or uPVC doors, contact us first. Our letter plates guide covers fitting in more detail.

More Letter Box Questions

Will a 12 x 4 letter plate take A4 envelopes?

Yes. The 12 x 4 inch letter plate has a 248 x 60mm opening, wide enough for A4 envelopes and folded newspapers to go through without bending.

What is a gravity letter plate?

A gravity letter plate has a flap that closes under its own weight rather than a spring, so it is quieter and gentler on fingers and post.

Do I need a letter flap on the inside of the door?

It is not essential, but an interior letter flap stops draughts and noise coming through the letter box and gives a neat finish inside the house.

Can I fit a letter plate and a door knocker together?

Yes, usually with the knocker above the letter plate. If space is tight, a letterbox knocker combines both in one piece.
