Heritage Brass Casement Fasteners

Brass Casement Window Handles and Window Fasteners

A casement fastener, also known as a casement window handle, window catch or window fastener, is the handle on the opening edge of a casement window that pulls it shut against the frame. Heritage Brass casement fasteners by M.Marcus are made from solid brass in seven designs, with lockable and weather stripped versions, and match the Heritage Brass casement stays on the same window. Part of the Heritage Brass casement window furniture range.

Choose Your Casement Fastener

  • Spoon pattern (V1003): traditional spoon end, non locking, 126mm long.
  • Ball end (V1008): rounded ball end, non locking.
  • Lockable ball end (V1008L): ball end with a key lock, suitable for weather stripped windows.
  • Reeded weather stripped (V894): fluted reeded handle, 130mm long, for windows with draught seals.
  • Lockable reeded weather stripped (V894L): the reeded design with a key lock.
  • Lockable wedge pattern (V1005): slim wedge shaped handle with a key lock, 129mm long.
  • Lockable wedge pattern weather stripped (V1005W): the wedge design for draught sealed windows.

Locking and Weather Stripped Fasteners

If your windows have draught seals, choose from the weather stripped casement fasteners, which are designed to reach past the seal and still close the window tightly. For a casement window lock, choose from the lockable casement fasteners, which lock with a key. Every fastener has a pivoted handle that suits both left and right hand opening windows.

Match Your Fastener and Stay

Pair the ball end fastener with a ball end casement stay, the spoon pattern fastener with a spoon pattern stay, or the reeded fastener with a reeded casement stay. For the reeded handles only, see Heritage Brass reeded casement fasteners. Every casement fastener and espag handle is also on our Heritage Brass window handles page.

Casement Fastener Questions

Are Heritage Brass casement fasteners left or right handed?
No. Every Heritage Brass casement fastener has a pivoted handle that suits both left hand and right hand opening windows, so you do not need to choose a hand.

What is a weather stripped casement fastener?
It is a fastener made for windows fitted with draught seals. The seal stops the casement closing tight to the frame, so the fastener is designed to reach further and still pull the window shut. The reeded V894 and V894L, the lockable ball end V1008L and the lockable wedge V1005W are all suitable for weather stripped windows.

Are the lockable casement fasteners security locks?
The lockable versions lock with a key so the window cannot be opened from inside without it, which is useful for child safety and peace of mind. M.Marcus notes that the lockable ball end and wedge pattern fasteners are not security locks, so check your insurance requirements if you need an approved window lock.

Do I need a mortice plate or a hook plate?
It depends on your window frame. A hook plate screws to the face of the frame for the fastener to catch on, while a mortice plate is set into the frame for a flush finish. Check the product details or contact us with a photo if you are unsure which suits your window.
