Two Tone Door Handles, Dual Finish Escutcheons and Porcelain Door Knobs

Heritage Brass combination finish door furniture is 130 solid brass and porcelain door fittings by M.Marcus: two tone lever handles, matching escutcheons and bathroom turns, and porcelain door knobs, finger plates and escutcheons. Use them to carry a two tone or porcelain look through every door in the house.

Two Tone Lever Handles on Backplate

Dual finish door handles on backplate come in latch, lock, euro profile and bathroom versions:

  • Apollo (polished and satin chrome): Ambassador, Centaur, Henley, Hilton, Saturn, Saturn Long and Howard.
  • Jupiter (gold plate and satin nickel): Ambassador, Buckingham, Lisboa, Saturn, Saturn Long and Vienna, plus an Edwardian latch handle.
  • Mercury (polished and satin nickel): Ambassador, Buckingham, Edwardian and Vienna.
  • Mayfair (polished and satin brass): Henley and Hilton.
  • Patina and satin brass: a Howard euro profile handle.

Two Tone Lever Handles on Rose

Caring for Combination Finishes

Apollo and the other chrome finishes: regularly removing dirt and watermarks with a non-abrasive cloth will help maintain the life of these finishes. External fittings will also benefit from a periodic light oiling of springs and moving parts.

Lacquered finishes, comprising polished brass, satin nickel, antique brass, matt bronze, satin brass, Jupiter, Mercury and Mayfair: all lacquered finishes will eventually break down over time. Lacquer breakdown will occur more frequently on products exposed to the climate, particularly in coastal areas and in polluted environments. Regularly removing dirt and watermarks with a non-abrasive cloth will help maintain the life of this finish. For products used externally, applying a non-abrasive light wax coating will protect the lacquer and could extend its life. Do not use metal cleaners or aerosol sprays, as these will damage the lacquer. External fittings will also benefit from a periodic light oiling of springs and moving parts. The life of the lacquer is beyond the manufacturer's control, and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Planning a Two Tone Door Scheme

A two tone scheme works best when every door in the house uses the same finish. Here is how to furnish each type of door with combination finish door furniture.

Internal doors. Most only need to close, so use a latch handle on a backplate with a tubular latch, or a two tone lever on rose such as Ellipse, Vienna, Pyramid or Phoenix. Porcelain door knobs are the alternative for period doors.

Bathrooms and en suites. Use the bathroom version of your backplate design with a bathroom lock, or a lever on rose with a round bathroom turn and release. The turns come in Mercury, chrome and brass, and matt bronze and satin brass.

Front and back doors. Choose the lock version of the handle for a sash lock, or the euro profile version for a euro cylinder lock. The Howard design also comes as a euro handle in patina and satin brass.

Doors with levers on rose and a lock. The keyhole needs its own escutcheon. Choose round 53mm key, euro or oval profile escutcheons in Mercury or chrome and brass, key or euro escutcheons in Apollo, or slim escutcheons in matt bronze and satin brass.

Period doors with porcelain. Pair porcelain door knobs with a matching porcelain finger plate and covered keyhole escutcheon, and choose the knob base to match the hinges.

Keep the design consistent. Most backplate designs come in latch, lock, euro and bathroom versions in the same finish, so the whole house can match, from the front door to the en suite.

Hinges and York locks for each combination finish

Matching Locks and Hinges to Dual Finish Handles

With two finishes on the handle, the lock faceplate, hinges and other fittings are usually chosen to match one of them. Here is a guide for each finish.

Apollo. Polished and satin chrome. Hang the door on polished chrome hinges or satin chrome hinges, and fit a York polished chrome and nickel or satin chrome and nickel latch or lock.

Mercury. Polished and satin nickel. Use polished nickel hinges or satin nickel hinges, with York chrome and nickel locks and latches in polished or satin.

Jupiter. Gold plate and satin nickel. Satin nickel hinges and a York satin chrome and nickel latch or lock pick up the satin half of the finish.

Mayfair. Polished and satin brass. Choose polished brass hinges or satin brass hinges, and a York polished brass or York satin brass latch or lock.

Chrome and brass. Polished chrome and polished brass. Choose the hinges and lock in whichever finish dominates the rest of the room, chrome or brass.

Care. Wipe dual finish handles with a non-abrasive cloth to remove dirt and watermarks, and do not use metal cleaners or aerosol sprays. External fittings will also benefit from a periodic light oiling of springs and moving parts.
