Caring for Polished Brass Kitchen Handles

Polished brass is one of the M.Marcus lacquered finishes. Wipe the handles with a soft, damp non-abrasive cloth and dry them, and never use metal cleaners, aerosol sprays or harsh kitchen sprays, which damage the lacquer. All lacquered finishes eventually break down with use, and the life of the lacquer cannot be guaranteed. If you would rather have brass that ages naturally, see unlacquered brass kitchen handles.

Match the Rest of the House

Carry polished brass through to the door handles and door furniture, window furniture, hinges and coat hooks, or see the whole Heritage Brass polished brass range.

Polished Brass Kitchen Hardware Questions

What size kitchen handles should I choose?
Pull handles of 96mm to 160mm centres suit most wall and base units, while 192mm to 320mm suit tall doors and wide pan drawers. Measure between the existing holes if you are replacing handles.

Are polished brass kitchen handles lacquered?
Yes. Heritage Brass polished brass is protected by a clear lacquer, so it keeps its shine without polishing. Wipe it with a non-abrasive cloth only.

What fixings come with Heritage Brass cabinet handles?
Pull handles come with M4 bolts in two lengths, and knobs come with M4 bolts, to suit different door and drawer front thicknesses.

Do the brass knobs match the brass pull handles?
Yes. Heritage Brass uses the same polished brass finish across its pull handles, knobs, cup handles and edge pulls, so you can mix them in one kitchen.

Layout, colours and other rooms

Planning a Brass Kitchen

Knobs, pulls or both? A simple, classic layout is brass cabinet knobs on the wall and base unit doors with brass cup handles or pull handles on the drawers. For a cleaner modern look, use one pull handle design on every door and drawer.

Colours that suit brass. Polished brass looks its best against deep colours such as bottle green, navy, charcoal and black, and warms up cream, sage and stone painted units. It also pairs well with brass or gold taps and light fittings.

Beyond the kitchen. The same handles and knobs work on utility rooms, boot room cupboards, bathroom vanity units, wardrobes and dressers, so one finish can run through the whole house.

Plain, knurled and hammered

Choose Your Brass Texture

Plain. Smooth bar handles such as Metro, Slim Metro, Bauhaus and Contour give a clean line and suit modern and Shaker kitchens alike.

Knurled. Complete Knurl and Partial Knurl handles and knurled knobs have a fine cross-cut texture that adds grip and a crafted, industrial look.

Hammered. Hammered Metro, Bauhaus and T-bar handles, hammered knobs, hammered cup handles and hammered edge pulls have a hand-beaten surface that softens the shine of polished brass.

For furniture. T-bar knobs and drop handles suit dressers, chests of drawers and bedside cabinets. See them at our Kendal and Carlisle showrooms.

More Brass Kitchen Handle Questions

Are Heritage Brass gold kitchen handles real brass?

Yes. Heritage Brass polished brass handles are solid brass, polished and protected with a clear lacquer, not a gold coloured coating on another metal.

Which knob size should I choose?

32mm knobs suit most kitchen doors and small drawers, while 38mm knobs suit larger doors and deep drawers. Many kitchens use one size throughout.

Can I use brass handles in a bathroom?

Yes, on vanity units and bathroom cupboards. Wipe off water marks with a soft cloth and dry them, as the lacquer lasts longer when it is kept clean and dry.

What is the difference between a T-bar handle and a T-bar knob?

A T-bar pull handle has two fixings and a longer bar. A T-bar knob has a single fixing, like a knob, with a short bar for grip.

Can I mix hammered and plain brass handles?

Yes, as long as the finish is the same. Some kitchens use plain pull handles on drawers with hammered knobs on doors for a little texture.
